The Chi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is excited
to host the 72nd SE Regional Conference in 2012.It has been a VERY LONG TIME
since the SE Region has graced Birmingham, Alabama with its presence. Sigma is
ready to set the Magic City on Fire!
This year's conference will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in the heart of
Downtown Birmingham. Only minutes away from the historic Five Points South
District, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Miles College. You are
blocks away from the historical Black Business District which at one time was
the only place in Downtown Birmingham where blacks were allowed to conduct
business. There you will find the famous 16th Street Baptist Church, Kelly
Ingram Park, and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.
This years conference will feature a step show to benefit the United Negro
College Fund with a very special host guest to be announced and possibly
featuring the smooth sounds of R&B duo Blak and Myld; an Up all Night Party to
benefit St. Jude's Children's Hospital; and possibly a pre-conference Comedy
Show to benefit March of Dimes.
Of course, we will have the Annie Neville Talent Luncheon, the Candidates Forum,
Elections, a Legacy and Life Members Luncheon, Special Recognition for all Past
Regional Syntakti, TORCH Training, and the Achievement and Awards Semi Formal
Dinner Dance.
Start working now on your chapter reports and chapter displays. We will have a
Chapter Display Room. More information is forthcoming from your regional
epistoleus.
Philos and Rhoers will not be left out. There will be the Preliminary Pageant
for the Rhoers, the First Lady Philo Pageant and other activities for our
affiliates.
Service initiatives will include HIV and AIDS testing co-sponsored by AIDS
Alabama in support of our A3 4 Life initiative and a special collection of baby
supplies to benefit a local shelter that serves pregnant teens in support of
Project Reassurance Healthy Generations and our National Campaign to Prevent
Teen Pregnancy initiatives
Finally...there will be PLENTY of training and leadership development
opportunities...networking...and memories that will last a lifetime.
