It has been an honor to serve our sisterhood as the Regional Syntaktes since my
reelection at the 70th SE Regional Conference in Greenville, South Carolina. I
firmly believe that elected officers of the sorority are servant leaders who
work to propel the organization towards success. As the leader of the SE
Region, it has been my goal to lead the team of the elected and appointed
Regional Board Members with transparency, passion, and professionalism. We all work together in the spirit of “Greater Service. Greater
Progress” to live up to the hopes and dreams of our seven illustrious founders.
Each year, I have introduced a “regional focus.” The purpose of the regional
focus was to inspire the membership to remember our mission as a public service
sisterhood. Each focus stressed leadership, love, understanding, outreach,
virtue, sisterhood, and education. This year, I was inspired to lean heavily on
the international theme of “on fire to serve” and I worked earnestly to keep the
Southeast regional fire hot and the torch burning bright. In the Southeast
region, we realized at our 71st SE regional conference that we are still on fire
to serve.
Syntaktes’
Accomplishments
Blue and Gold Makes Green:
The SE Region has worked to preserve the environment by utilizing technology for
communication and the dissemination of information. Soror Niccole Rogers has
served as the Southeast Regional Webmistress. The SE Region Website is located
at http://www.seregionsgrho.org The SE Region also maintains an active listserve
located at SERegionSGRho@yahoogroups.com where general information and
announcements of concern and interest to members of the sorority are shared.
The Syntaktes’ Challenge:
Consistently encouraged the sorors of the SE Region to support national
initiatives (UNCF, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, March of Dimes, etc.) by
challenging them annually at area meetings to reach specific philanthropic
goals.
Passing on the TORCH:
In an effort to bridge the generational gap in the regional leadership, this
officer has worked tirelessly to motivate, identify, and inspire the next
generation of leaders. Seasoned leaders have been solicited and encouraged to
mentor to upcoming leaders and introduce them to opportunities for leadership in
the SE Region. Deliberate efforts were taken to appoint committee chairs, state
liaisons, and TORCH trainers from the cohort of rising Sigma Stars within the SE
Region. This officer was in full support of the Undergraduate Leadership
Development Program proposed by our SE Region Undergraduate Chapter Coordinator.
